The ongoing LPG cylinder shortage has pushed Pune’s hospitality industry to the brink of a major crisis. With commercial gas supplies running critically low, hotel and restaurant owners across the city say they may be forced to shut down operations within days if the situation does not improve.
The shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in Pune has been triggered by the escalating Iran-Israel-US conflict, which has severely disrupted global oil and gas supply chains. As crude oil prices crossed the $100 per barrel mark, LPG distributors are struggling to maintain adequate stock levels for commercial users.
Impact on Pune’s Food Industry
Pune has thousands of hotels, restaurants, dhabas and food stalls that depend entirely on commercial LPG cylinders for daily cooking. With supplies drying up, many Larger restaurants say their existing stock will last only a few more days.
Restaurant association leaders in Pune have warned that if the government does not intervene immediately, a mass shutdown of the city’s food businesses is inevitable. This would not only affect lakhs of customers but also put thousands of workers out of jobs overnight.
