Chancellor Rachel Reeves is set to announce a support package for households struggling with rising heating oil costs, caused by the global impact of the US-Israel war in Iran. In an interview with The Times, Reeves said she has “found the money” to help, and that the Treasury is also looking at “different options” to assist those most vulnerable to soaring energy bills. The increase in global oil prices has caused a spike in heating oil costs, which is commonly used in rural areas not connected to the main gas grid, and is not covered by Ofgem’s energy price cap โ which is actually set to fall in April.
