New Delhi, April 2: India has achieved a landmark milestone in its defence sector, with exports touching an unprecedented ₹38,424 crore in the financial year 2025-26. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced this achievement on Thursday, highlighting a remarkable 62.66% surge compared to the previous fiscal year.
Taking to social media platform X, Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for steering the country toward this historic accomplishment. He noted that the steep rise of ₹14,802 crore over the prior year signals growing international confidence in India’s homegrown technologies and world-class manufacturing capabilities.
The record-breaking figures reflect a well-rounded contribution from both public and private sectors. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) led the charge with a 54.84% share, while private industry accounted for the remaining 45.16%, demonstrating the strength of India’s collaborative and self-sufficient defence ecosystem.
Looking ahead, the government has set an ambitious target of ₹50,000 crore in defence exports by FY 2029-30. Private industry, currently responsible for around 25% of defence platforms, equipment, and accessories, is expected to scale up to 50% of total production value in the coming years.
Singh also underscored that all warships and submarines on order for the Indian Navy are being constructed entirely within Indian shipyards, covering everything from design to lifecycle support — a testament to the country’s deepening self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
