GUWAHATI, March 13, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Assam on Friday afternoon for a two-day visit, set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth a massive Rs 47,600 crore — a move seen as significant ahead of the upcoming assembly polls.
A Packed Two-Day Schedule
This marks Modi’s fourth visit to Assam in as many months, underlining the Centre’s focus on the northeastern state. The PM shared his itinerary on social media, saying:
“I will be in Assam and West Bengal over the next two days to attend programmes in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Silchar and Kolkata. These programmes will present a wonderful opportunity to interact with the people of these states. Various development works will also be inaugurated.”
The visit covers key cities — Kokrajhar, Guwahati, and Silchar — with projects spanning road infrastructure, railways, waterways, and energy sectors.
Kokrajhar: Roads, Bridges & Railways
Modi’s first stop is Kokrajhar, where projects worth over Rs 4,570 crore will be unveiled.
Assam Mala 3.0 — a flagship road infrastructure initiative — received its ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ from the PM. Under this scheme, more than 900 km of roads will be constructed to improve inter-state connectivity and strengthen links between national highways and rural roads.
The PM also performed ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ for four flyovers and two bridges in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area, developed at an investment of around Rs 1,100 crore. These projects are expected to ease traffic congestion in Kokrajhar district and improve connectivity across tourism, agriculture, healthcare, and rural mobility.
Additionally, Modi laid the foundation stone of a Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Bashbari to strengthen railway maintenance and enhance operational efficiency in the region.
Guwahati: A Rs 19,680 Crore Push
From Kokrajhar, the PM travelled to Guwahati, where development initiatives worth Rs 19,680 crore were launched, covering railway electrification, waterways infrastructure, and energy projects.
State Government Ready
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that all preparations for the visit had been completed, saying:
“People of Assam are eagerly awaiting Adarniya @narendramodi Ji’s visit later today. Projects worth over Rs 47,600 crore will be dedicated to our people over the next 48 hours.”
