bomb email threat

A serious security scare gripped Mumbai on Thursday morning after anonymous bomb threat emails were sent to four of the city’s most prominent institutions — Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, Bombay Stock Exchange, Bombay High Court, and Mumbai Metro — triggering an immediate and large-scale security response across the financial capital.
The threat was first detected early in the morning. According to Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde, the email was received at 6:57 AM on the official email account of CPA warning of an imminent bomb and missile attack at the Vidhan Bhavan, where the Maharashtra Budget Session 2026 is currently underway.
Within minutes, Mumbai Police and security agencies swung into action. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and Dog Squads were deployed immediately to conduct a thorough sweep of the Vidhan Bhavan complex. All staff members and visitors were escorted outside the building, and entry was suspended until the search operation was completed.
Four Key Locations Targeted
Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde confirmed that the threat was not limited to Vidhan Bhavan alone. Similar threatening emails were sent to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Bombay High Court, and Mumbai Metro, placing the entire South Mumbai government district under a high alert.
Security was immediately heightened at all four locations, and legal action was initiated at the respective police stations to trace the source of the threatening emails.
All Clear Declared
After an exhaustive search of the Vidhan Bhavan complex using bomb disposal teams and sniffer dogs, security officials declared the premises safe. Legislative proceedings inside the complex resumed under significantly heightened security. Entry passes for outside visitors were reportedly suspended for the day as a precautionary measure.
Mumbai Police confirmed that adequate security measures are now in place at all threatened locations and that investigation into the origin of the emails is actively underway.
Mumbai Police stated that all necessary legal action is being taken at the respective police stations and that the source of the threatening emails is being actively traced. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately.
