NEW DELHI — In a major policy push, the Union Cabinet has cleared projects worth a massive Rs. 8.8 lakh crore, signalling the government’s strong focus on infrastructure development and rural welfare. Two of the biggest approvals include the extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Jewar-Faridabad Elevated Road project.
Jal Jeevan Mission Extended
The Cabinet has approved the extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the flagship programme aimed at providing clean tap water to every rural household in India. The mission, which was originally set to conclude, will now continue to ensure that millions of families — particularly in remote and underserved areas — have access to safe drinking water at home.
Jewar-Faridabad Elevated Road Approved
In a major boost to connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Cabinet has given the green light to the Jewar-Faridabad Elevated Road. This project will significantly reduce travel time between Jewar — home to the upcoming Noida International Airport — and Faridabad, easing traffic congestion and boosting economic activity in the region.
A Historic Investment
The total outlay of Rs. 8.8 lakh crore reflects the government’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure while ensuring the welfare of common citizens. These decisions are expected to create lakhs of jobs and improve the quality of life across urban and rural India.
